The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF) is a nonprofit organization based in Hayward, Wisconsin, USA. It is primarily known for organizing and hosting the American Birkebeiner Ski Race, often referred to simply as the “Birkie.”
Through the Birkie Green initiative, the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation not only fosters a passion for cross-country skiing and outdoor recreation but also demonstrates a forward-thinking ethos that resonates with the broader global movement towards environmental stewardship.
The Challenge
With our Birke Green initiative, we wanted to take steps to begin using more renewable energy sources. We needed an expert to help us plan our steps forward.
Solar Solution
Legacy Solar Co-op helped American Birkebeiner with an initial site assessment, advised them on financing their project using tax financing, assisted with the submission of a Solar for Good grant, which they received in spring of 2021.
Outcome
Solar arrays were installed at the Birkie office and their Samuel C. Johnson Family Outdoor Center, producing more than 100% of annual electricity needs for the locations. They are developing long-term plans for solar installations at other locations.
Testimonial
“Absolutely worth it. Legacy Solar was extremely instrumental in making this happen for us. ~ Joe Vadeboncoeur
