Solar Renewable Energy Certificates and a Low-carbon Future

July 9, 2021/in Advice/Education, sRECs

Everyday we hear about pledges to become carbon neutral, net zero, and carbon negative, and the somewhat frantic race to do so.

Thankfully, some large corporate players have released their goals for reducing their carbon emissions, setting an important precedent that encourages other fossil-fuel-heavy entities to do the same.

The effort to reduce emissions can be accomplished in a variety of ways, but even after we make sure our home, infrastructure and resource use is efficient, there is still more to be done.

Typically, over 60% of a business or home’s carbon footprint contains a plume of indirect greenhouse gases (Ghg). This is true of even the most energy efficient operation.

So how does one tackle these Ghg emissions?

One way is through the purchase of solar renewable energy certificates (sRECs) and the investment in local, sustainable, solar energy infrastructure.

Solar supports local economies and more solar on the grid means improved air quality and better health. Investing in solar creates a model that moves communities around Wisconsin towards renewable energy independence.

Legacy Solar Co-op’s S2S sREC program makes it easy to take action. Subscribe today and counter your building energy use, calculate your monthly or annual carbon footprint, or support your local sREC producer.

If you have questions about the sREC program, or would like a detailed carbon calculation, please contact us at elise@legacysolarcoop.org or by calling 608-571-4992.

Legacy Solar Cooperative of Wisconsin is committed to assisting the growth of solar electricity through consultation, financing, and group purchases.  Membership is open to individuals, non-profits, and commercial organizations.
