Sawyer County Non Profit Housing Development

May 15, 2020/in Projects

LOCATION:  Multiple locations in Sawyer County, Wisconsin   |   CAPACITY:  153 kW   |   COMPLETION DATE: May 2020

SOLAR CONTRACTOR: Carlson Electric

Sawyer County Non Profit Housing Development (Galaxie Apartments) provides affordable housing for seniors and people with disabilities at four locations in Sawyer County, Wisconsin.  The apartments are run by a full-time manager and a full-time maintenance man, with a Board of Directors overseeing the total operation.

The Challenge

Sawyer County Non Profit Housing Development chose to install solar panels to help tenants lower their eclectic bills and to make the apartment more affordable.  They also had panels installed for the electricity used by administration.  They were introduced to Legacy Solar through installer Carlson Electric as a way to make the install more affordable for a non-profit.

Solar Solution

Legacy Solar helped find a donor to collaborate on the money end of the project.  They found a like-minded person that was interested in helping a non-profit achieve our solar goals.  A contract was drawn up and everyone agreed that this was the best way to pay for this project.  Every apartment – all 44 of them – have their own panels.  Each tenant reaps the rewards of solar energy.

Outcome

The outcome of this project has been very successful.  The tenants have seen the lowest electric bills ever.  Some tenants even receive a small return from their electric provider.

Nancy Mercer, of Galaxie Apartments reports: “This project has also been very educational to everyone.  It was quite the process, but well worth the effort.

I have and will continue to talk about my solar project to others.  Whether they are non-profit or not.  I inform others to consider solar panels and to take a look at Legacy Solar’s web site and see the work they are doing and investigate the possibilities of what Legacy Solar has to offer.”

Testimonial

“Legacy Solar Co-op is a co-op of people that have like minded people helping ordinary people and organizations achieve solar energy. They are friendly, informative and it was a great experience to work with them.  I would highly recommend others to find out what they are all about and see what they can do for your solar project.”  ~ Nancy Mercer
