SOLAR CONTRACTOR:
Emmanuel Community United Methodist Church serves Menomonee Falls and surrounding communities. They have many ministry groups including a very active mission outreach team and green team caring for God’s creation.
We worship in both a traditional sanctuary and large multi-purpose room. Our variety of ministry and study groups meet in different rooms throughout our building.
The Challenge
Our church’s Green Team had been investigating the possibility of solar energy at our church for several years. During the COVID pandemic our church leadership looked for new ways to reduce our operating costs and care for God’s creation. A team from the church reached out to Legacy Solar Co-op to help us explore the possible size, placement, and cost of a solar energy system. This included sources of assistance for financing the project.
After five months of research and discussions the church decided to purchase a system that would provide about 60% of our electrical needs and we made a contract with Arch Solar to install the system. Six months later the project was begun and it was completed in five months. We are very satisfied with the assistance we received and the solar energy which benefits the environment and our finances.
Solar Solution
Legacy Solar provided information on the basic elements of a solar energy system, placement options, costs, sources of financial assistance, and reliable contractors. They made the arrangements with agencies for financial assistance and provided legal documents where needed.
We at first thought we would get a system with about 60 solar panels, but with further consideration doubled the size of the system to 118 panels because it made more financial sense and we had the room on our roof for that many panels.
Outcome
In the first month of operation our solar energy system reduced our electrical costs by 80% and it continues to function well. I would encourage any organization or home with a potentially good location for solar energy to pursue getting this for its environmental and financial benefits.
Testimonial
“Tony and Kurt stuck with our church through the variety of questions that come up in the process of doing a large new project like this. They were always willing to communicate with us or come to us in person if needed. We valued their assistance.” ~ Doug Walters
