Buying Local Lessens Your Carbon Footprint
6/29/21
We already mentioned why it’s so important to support our local farmers and markets. Not only does this positively impact our economy, but it also greatly reduces our environmental pollution.
When we purchase items to be shipped to us, it takes fossil fuels to manufacture those goods and get them to the consumer. There may also be fewer regulations when it comes to pollution depending on the country where the goods were produced. The further you drive for groceries and basic necessities, the more it increases the carbon impact from driving. The more we can walk to shops, frequent our local farmer’s markets, participate in a farm share/CSA, the more we divest from fossil fuels, support our local economy, protect our environment and build a resilient system.
The transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, especially solar, is about actions you can take today and encouraging others to do the same. Grassroots investments in renewable energy is made up of investing in projects supporting solar, wind, biofuels, geothermal and hydro sources. With the ideology that all consumers can get access to a diverse array of renewable energy sources. This literally gives more Power to the People, and better access! At Legacy Solar Co-op we approach this accessibility angle with multiple ways to invest and support. We ask you to join us and become a member, you will be able to be a part of a transition to a solar future; you can also purchase low-cost solar renewable energy certificates, or perhaps you are interested in returns on investments through our solar bonds program, and/or it may be the right fit for you or your business to install solar. We look forward to being your resource for switching from fossil fuels to solar, however that transition fits for your current lifestyle and budget.
